Organic industry

Photo of natural organic beefAn increasing number of farmers are considering organic farming as a serious alternative to more conventional farming systems.

Horticulture, including sugarcane, is the largest sector of the industry in Queensland, followed by meat and livestock, value-added products and grains and pulses.

Organic farmers are responding to the increased education and awareness of consumers who are seeking foods they consider safe, healthy and tasty.

Environmental concerns are important to farmers and consumers alike.

DPI&F undertakes research, trade, and extension projects with direct relevance to the organic industry.

OrganicNews is a web newsletter published twice a year to provide updates on DPI&F research and extension projects. Subscription is free. Once subscribed you will receive automatic notification when a new issue is published.
