Operating a sawmill in Queensland
A guide to legislative and administrative requirements

As of 1 January 2005, sawmills in Queensland are no longer required to be licensed under the Sawmills Licensing Act 1936 (SL Act).

There are a number of Queensland Acts of Parliament, subordinate legislation, associated administrative practices and policies, and local government laws that impact on the sawmilling segment of the Queensland forestry industry.

This information paper outlines the main legislative requirements and policies, as well as identifying the State Government agencies charged with their administration. It is intended to be a general guide only, and there may also be a range of other laws that apply to sawmilling activities. For this reason, sawmillers and potential industry entrants are strongly advised to contact the relevant agency and obtain independent legal advice in relation to their own particular circumstances.
