Record of 2007 targetted stakeholder meetings for the Great Sandy marine aquaculture planning project

Public meeting

As part of the State Government's commitment to planning for marine aquaculture in the Great Sandy region, the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries (DPI&F) sought regional input from stakeholder focus groups at a very preliminary stage, to assist in refining areas for further investigation.

A large number of regional organisations were identified as key stakeholders that may be able to provide local information on commercial and recreational activities, significant environmental areas or other resources, to assist Government to refine the proposed investigation areas. These organisations were invited to contribute to a preliminary planning stage.

Interested groups took part in meetings at Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, and Brisbane. These meetings were of mixed composition and included representatives from state and local government, conservation groups, researchers, recreational fishers, commercial fishers, aquaculture operators, environmental groups, commercial whale watchers, consultants, and regional community groups.

Individual meeting records

To provide transparency, DPI&F is posting a summary of each meeting onto the web for the information of attendees or other members of the public who may be interested in the feedback received.
