Recognised bycatch reduction devices

See also:

Bycatch reduction devices (BRDs) are designed to reduce the amount of unwanted product collected in trawl nets. Under the Fisheries (East Coast Trawl) Management Plan 1999, all trawl operators must use at least one "recognised" bycatch reduction device.  There are seven recognised BRDs that operators can choose from.

Illustrations of each of the BRDs can be accessed by the links below.

DPI&F also encourages the development of new bycatch reduction devices by trawl operators, net makers and researchers.  Anyone with new designs should contact the trawl section on 07 3225 1855 for further information.
