Activities in this module were designed to help students understand the impact of exotic pest fish infestation on our natural waterways.
The Queensland Fisheries Service, within the Department of Primary Industries, has developed a strategy aimed at controlling the spread of exotic pest fish.
Education is a key component of this strategy as many pest fish infestations are the result of deliberate or accidental introductions by humans.
It is hoped that this module will educate young Queenslanders about the dangers of introducing non-native fish to our waterways and prevent the spread of existing pest fish and the introduction of new pest species.
This education module was developed to meet learning outcomes of the new Science and Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE) curriculum developed by the Queensland Schools Curriculum Council.
The activities focus on providing outcomes in levels 35.

The module focuses on the Key Concepts and Core Learning Outcomes from the Years 1 to 10 syllabuses for Science and Study of Society and Environment as outlined in the coverage of outcomes. (See Coverage of outcomes: Science and Coverage of outcomes: Study of society & environment)
Students will have opportunities to:
Blooms Taxonomy and Gardners Multi-Intelligences were used in the planning and development of activities in the module.
The activities have been grouped into Introductory, Developmental and Culminating units.
They have been numbered sequentially by unit, as are the accompanying teacher and student resource sheets.
For example, activity d.5 is the fifth activity in the Developmental unit (d) and is accompanied by student resource sheet d.5.
Several activities in the Developmental and Culminating units provide opportunities for assessment of Science and SOSE outcomes.
The Integrated activity guide provides useful planning and summary information.
