This activity provides opportunities for students to synthesise information about exotic pest fish species by using a mind/concept map.

Teaching strategies

Developing a mind map around a topic is a useful way of synthesising information and identifying relationships around elements in a course of study.

Working scientifically

(U: dealing in an orderly manner with parts of a complex whole, C: exploring and elaborating ideas)

1. As a class or in groups, students brainstorm elements/topics about exotic pest fish to produce a mindmap, cell by cell.
   
   
2. Students are given a different and incomplete mind map (e.g. Student resource c.1 - Mind/concept map ( PDF 24 kB).
   In groups, students combine their knowledge to complete the gaps.
